The Treadmill

I got this morning off speaking, I really enjoyed that and no comments please. Michelle my fantastic wife continued the conversation on prayer. What a video eh? If you weren't there this morning we started with a video of me doing a workout on a treadmill, the video guy was a little over indulgent with the song choice, though very funny.

The question this morning was 'how long should I pray?' Great question especially if you set out to do an hour and wake up 55 mins later with the question of where I'm I? Ever been there?

Prayer is not about setting a time. Chelle talked about how Jesus taught some Jewish boys who by the way would have grown up learning all about prayer, kinda strange right? They asked Jesus to teach them to pray (Matthew 6:9-13) and so he takes them through a model.

Starting with Our Father then wonder and awe as we hallow His name, to surrender; 'your kingdom come'. So back to the question how long? You answer it, because for some its staying in the conversation long enough to see God as Father, maybe for you its wrestle in a conversation with the Father on surrendering and letting go of something.

Don't get caught up in some program of 1 hour and patterns but get caught up with God and take as a long as it takes to engage with God in intimacy, knowing his power, surrendering your life and depending on Him.

Can I ask you to do something this week, take off the watch and find a space where you can experience a miracle; the miracle of God the creator stopping and listening to you (But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you Mt 6:6) then begin the conversation and take as long as you need.
